BOWHUNTING FROM TREESTANDS
Many bowhunters, especially those new to bowhunting, choose to hunt from treestands. In the midwest, hunting whitetail deer, where you have lots of woodlands a treestand is a good choice because it can get you above the line of sight of the deer. It also can help slightly with scent control(your human scent will dissipate a little between the treestand and the ground). They also give you a better line of sight throughout your immediate area, you can see the animals coming sooner.
There are many different types and styles of stands. You have LADDER STANDS, TRIPODS and PLATFORMS, HANG ON STANDS, and CLIMBERS. Each has its pros and cons depending on your hunting area, your skill set, and even your size. When hunting on public land you really can't leave one up. Most states won't allow it and unfortunately there is also the problem of theft. Some are just not designed for larger individuals. And some require you to actually climb the tree.
When using any form of stand for bowhunting, safety should always be your #1 priority. No matter what trophy you are after the only successful hunt is one that ends with you home safe and uninjured.
